“Good afternoon everyone,
I was thinking about how we get the center of ourselves because primarily there are so many layers to work through and it takes a lot of lives to get to the highest energy of ourselves, if you like our Higher Self. Getting to the highest point, and here I think that the practice of mindfulness can help, we need to have the knowledge that we are spiritual beings in human entity but that also means that we have a dual nature – human and spiritual and it is the human nature that really does the battle. It is the spiritual warrior on the battlefield.
We often relate to our physical form because that is what we readily see before us, and we forget that is not all of who we are, there is more to us than that. Our physical, dense form has its own intelligence, it is an amazing machine that is lent to us as we give it a life and it is designed in a way that represents the sum of all we are. It has parental and familial resemblances. It carries DNA that sometimes manifests in physical ways that are challenging but, it is also a reflection of who we are in ourselves on another level and that is our human nature, our personality and the mind, which is part of who we are but is not of our physical body.
We know that we all have an aura, and that aura is combined with our etheric and our physical body through which energy streams. It is like our physical dense body is on loan to the earth, connected to the earth, and our etheric body is connected to the life source of Spirit. And then over eons and years of evolution we have gone from the cave man realm where the physical survival was our primary force to developing an emotional body. In effect, we have learned a little bit about love, loving our family and others and over time the collective, not in every situation unfortunately, and now we are in the throes of developing more emphasis on the mental level.
Perhaps you can see auras. Especially if you are meditating you can sense them and you can also see light around others. This layer holds all the energy of our life and that is what I call the human soul where the qualities of the human are developed and shine and then we have another Spiritual Soul that is also trying to fuse through us and become one with us.
Self-awareness is one of the goals our souls want us to reach. I remember reading a Facebook post and Eckhart Tolle was talking about being present and he said, “Just do it.” Being present is being in touch with who we are at our heart center and, if we think about everything that is going on in the world, it is hard to come to that point of stillness and be so self-aware that we are aware of our energy 100% of the time.
So, on a human level we respond emotionally, we respond mentally and then unfortunately, the denseness of our body take the brunt of it especially when it is a lot of stress and difficulty.
So, first of all I would say that self-awareness begins with that sense of this is what is happening to us and we don’t have a lot of control over what is going on out in the world but, we do have control over how we react to it and talk about it and this is where humour and all those aspects that help lighten the load can come to the fore. I think that is probably a soul attribute or quality.
When I think about the nature of being human, we have this lower quality where fear and worry and anxiety come through and, in the world today we are living in a time of major shifts and changes, so it is hard to reconcile that we still need to be self-aware. I think from my own perspective that meditation has been a key for me along with the study of certain things that have led me to become more self-aware and to notice how I am interacting with others in certain situations and reacting to other things. The thing is to find that point of stillness where we can release the stress and, until we come to that self-awareness where we can find ourselves centered, we will have those moments of unawareness about how we are interacting with the world in general and certain people in particular.
It’s a hard one because we are human, and it is part of our human nature. I think about what is going on in the rest of the world over which we have no control whatever except, in how we respond to it. I also realise that there is a lot going on that I don’t understand because I don’t have the vision for it and there possibly is a cause of an outer effect that we can’t see so, my sense of it is to try to develop trust and, no matter what is happening, believe that there is a plan of action and, at some point further down the road, it will make better sense.
So, the thing about our true nature is that there are opposites within us, the good, the bad, the darkness, the light and in those moments of extremes when there is a lot of change going on, those groups that have been marginalised over the years are screaming out for attention. The pendulum is swinging that way, and it will swing back and when we find that neutral position, that is when we see the balance of the two sides coming together because it always does.
A friend of mine is a student and every so often I will ask him what is going on and, because of his belief system, he says that you there is so much poverty, there is so much corruption, there is so much dictatorship that it is really difficult to stay in the center of it because you know we walk with one foot in either side the human and the Spiritual and it is a really narrow path. I responded that there has always been poverty, There has always been suffering, There has always been greed, dictatorship, all those things that we see every day but, and this is a big but, there has always been light. So, sometimes it is about looking at the other side of the coin and seeing the light.
If we try meditation, we can come to understand more about how to sort out what we can control and what we need to let go of. All you can do is change perspective and it is going to be hard it is going to be challenging and what is coming out of it is that you are making a difference in someone else’s life and I don’t know what you think but, from my perspective, we all have our challenges and difficulties in life only I see at the end of the day that it is survival and, if you let things out, you just have to keep stepping forward and believe and build trust and when you do that, no-one like feeling vulnerable so people find it hard to ask for assistance when they need it so that it doesn’t become huge and insurmountable because we are the warriors.
We will be tested, and we like to see if we can always stay in the center and never be touched but it is not reality so I think we need to cut ourselves some slack and, as Val said, seek out friends who support us but remember that there is something going on in the world that we can’t possibly fathom at the level we are. We know that we have support in Spirit, and it is amazing that even with all my beliefs if I go through challenging times and am stressed, I forget. Ask and you will get there.
I can see the evidence of it happening so just continue to get that self-awareness. Something that has helped me over the years is to observe and then detach, not judging myself but sitting back a the end of the day for a few minutes, settling my mind and asking myself how the day went. What happened today? How did you react to it? Was it a good day? Did it make you feel good? And for those days when things didn’t go well, don’t judge yourself but think about how you might have avoided that incident or thing that happened. I have found that it has been very enlightening.
Some people make meditation their whole life so it is almost like finding meanings and affirmations that will bring you back to your center away from the world influences back to mind energy and if your need to talk about something then do that. Have people that you can relate to without fear of recrimination because there are times when you have to step bac and not react immediately to people around us, Just sit down quietly and ask yourself what is really going on? It is almost like we have to be psychologists and teachers, and we all are teachers but we can’t read people’s minds and what is in their heart so we just have to set a calm environment but there are times when we can’t change or fix whatever it is that has caused the upset. Sometimes too what we have to do is take care of ourselves and how we respond. It is like, when you get on the flight, we are advised to place the air mask on our face first before trying to assist another.
It comes from us. Our lives will have a lot of change and evolution and make no mistake, a lot of people are doing it, there is more group consciousness evident in the world today, but we don’t hear about that. The media have the power, but they don’t share everything so we don’t hear about the good news and, I don’t know about you, but I like to stay informed and that means I have to sort the rubbish from the good so we have to make choices and be there for each other when we can.
It is not all doom and gloom There is a bigger plan in action that we cannot see and perhaps we should focus on coming back to the self and stop striving it is exhausting trying to keep above it all. I realised that as a child I believed in magic and as I grew, I lost it for a while, but I am coming back to that sense of otherness and being more of myself and less of what others think or try to make me. There are a lot of wonderful people in the world to share with who will pass it on as they go about their lives.
So, I wish you well. Focus on what is good. One of the few things that I took from my years as a Catholic is the prayer of St Francis of Assisi which talks about giving and listening and it comes from the heart. It shines a light on what will make life glow and lead to bliss because it put the self aside and raises it to the Spiritual which of course means that good is on the ascendent.
Yes, there is a lot of chaos but out of chaos comes order but of course this is a time of change and great opportunities it is just that the pendulum has swung too far the other way, and it has to come back to neutral. It is like when Dr Martin Luther King gave his life and because of that, the law in America changed so that this person could sit next to a white person and while that did not change what was in the heart of the racist person, they had to obey the law so in very subtle ways it is that our generations, those past and those to come will evolve as people. Changing the laws does not immediately change how people feel or how they act, but it will happen.
I read somewhere that all of us, the whole human race, are on the path where everyone must evolve, and I thought, “How can that happen when there are so many people who are unconscious, not even aware that they are in that state.”
In a Meditation, I was on a highway, and we were all on the same path, some travelling in groups of two, some driving in the right lane, some in the left lane some travelling by themselves and they were all heading towards the light and the change will happen as each one reaches the light inside them and radiates that light into the world, into our families, our workplaces, into our communities. We each have a goal, and that goal is to leave the world a better place than when we stepped into this life.”
