Presented by Maureen Mallett
Don’t you all look gorgeous? My name is Maureen Mallet, and I am the lead for today’s service.
Now, the way Spirit works with me is to give me a song and today the song is by the Carpenters, “We’ve only just begun” You know the one,
“We’ve only just begun to live
White lace and promises
A kiss for luck and we’re on our way
And yes, we’ve just begun…”
That first line, “We’ve only just begun to live” You could say that every day we at the beginning of our life, for every day is new to us and we really do not know what each day holds. We have an idea because in the past we have lived a certain way, done certain things, and expected a day to unfold and finish much as any other day has. Yet we have no guarantee that a day will proceed as the previous day and therefore each day does start with the first line of that song, “We’ve only just begun”.
And it matters not how old one is nor how long one has been attending a Spiritualist Church, sitting in Circles, studying and taking classes, each in their own way is still at the beginning.
Oh yes there have been a lot of lessons along the way and a number of successes along with a few near misses but that is grist for the mill. It seems to me that until we can say that we have it all in hand i.e. that we know what life is all about then we really have “only just begun.”
Imagine you are not of this world yet but to quote Jane Austen, you are “tottering on the brink” as it were, and you know what it is that you are meant to do in this lifetime. Your plan has been worked out, your path has been plotted remembering that you are again a student of human life with all that may entail and you are ready to resume your education and here comes ‘the white lace and promises’ that all will work out as you and your guides have envisioned so ‘a kiss for luck on we are on our way’ and we find ourselves back in the earthly world only we have forgotten about the tasks and the plan and the promises and quite often we have forgotten about our guides but somehow over the period of our life we are introduced to folks who seem to know more about those things that have always bewildered us; those things that a lot of people call ‘airy fairy’, as they roll their eyes; those things for which there seemed no answer however, the more often we meet with and speak with and listen to those folks who seem to know, the more often we begin to realise that there is an answer and that there are folks who think as we think and we want to know more so we are willing to listen and see and pursue what the more enlightened ones are oh so willing to share.
Whatever may be the reason you have decided to put yourself in the way of something that gives a meaning to your life, something that raises your existence from the mundane to the extraordinary because, My Lovelies, that is what happens when you decide to explore and open yourself to the opportunity to hear and see how Spirit can work in your life; how Spirit can guide you as you travel the journey that all must travel whether they believe in an afterlife or not. And so, you find yourself in a Spiritualist Church where you are ready to hear what Spirit has to reveal through the words of the Speaker and the evidence of the “Proof of Survival” Demonstrator.
You are welcomed and greeted as one who is seeking, and you are accepted and there are none to say you nay. And so, you continue your search, only now you are pointed in the right direction “and yes we’ve just begun……”
So welcome to the Mornington Spiritualist Church.
Order of Service
I would like to thank all the Healers today for their ministrations.
Are there any newcomers today?
Today, we welcome Erica who is the Speaker and “Proof of Survival” Demonstrator and Greta Webster who will give the Meditation,
Now some of us have not only been coming to the Church for a number of years have also studied and attended courses, sat in Circles, conversed with the elders so of course they feel that they belong here and certainly they do while others will be newbies in that their attendance is measured in months rather than years yet each one of us is at that stage of only just beginning to understand how to live.
It started me thinking about how we have come to be here in this Church today where the idea of ‘survival after death’ is anathema to a lot of people and some consider the premise to be so obtuse that those who espouse such a belief should be avoided at all costs - yet here we are. To many others it is something too and why we may have come today and in fact any other Sunday's, many of us have been attending the Church for a number of years, some for a for only a few years and others for a few weeks and for still others it is their first Spiritualist Church meeting. So, I wonder ‘why are we here?’ Just take a moment to think about why you have come here today.
Love and Light - Maureen
